SOCIAL MEDIA IS BROKEN ACROSS THE POLITICAL SPECTRUM. WE WANT TO CHANGE THAT
Over the past two years, we have seen many social media platforms fail to provide a truly unbiased stage where all people, regardless of their background, can share their ideas in a healthy and unmanipulated environment. Truth Social lacks the innovation needed in the technology industry and is in decline. Parler is undergoing "a repositioning”, and Twitter is sucking wind in the Elon Musk era, as has been widely reported.
These developments are the result of an interesting dichotomy.
The lack of a proper global platform in the current online era has caused only the elite to been given a stage to speak, which is through the mainstream media which they themselves control. These elites have used the MSM to spread their personal opinions which is almost always driven by their personal financial interests. This business model causes half of the world’s population to rise up against the other half.
Tribal politics are alive and well.
But at GETTR, a social platform launched two years ago, we have evolved from our start-up roots to become a major competitor in the industry. We are one that appeals to a broader audience and is more tolerant of all perspectives. This record-breaking evolution is working to prove that we’ve held true to our foundational values of free speech, under any and all circumstances, resulting in us transcending tribalism.
Since our launch on July 4, 2021, GETTR has experienced unprecedented success. In just three days, we amassed over 1 million users, setting a new record for a social media platform. This meteoric rise continued in 2022, with a growth rate of 50% in year-over-year unique visitors. Flash forward to today, and we’ve surpassed 9 million users spanning nearly 200 countries.
These milestones speak volumes to the appeal and ability of our platform to attract users from diverse backgrounds globally, regardless of color, religion, creed or political stance. How do we intend to keep up our growth - even acceptance? By making free speech, a near-universally accepted principle, a non-negotiable pillar of our platform. We cannot improve the state of our public discourse if we simply “cancel” viewpoints with which we disagree. That just keeps us in an echo chamber and a tribalized state.
There is hope.
According to a recent poll commissioned by The New York Times, we are living in a time when only 34 percent of Americans believe they enjoy complete freedom of speech. An alarming 84 percent of Americans find it problematic that some people do not speak out because of a fear of retaliation. That's why when push comes to shove, the core value GETTR was founded on - free speech - is critically important to the future of public discourse, both here at home and beyond. GETTR is a story that's uniquely relatable and human. It's not only where your story begins, but also the experience and lessons that make us our best selves. In this spirit, we are working to define ourselves as a one-stop-shop for anyone who wants to do, well, anything.
From longer post lengths and lighthearted content in our "Chill Mode," to supporting video uploads of up to three minutes and launching GTok for short-form content, we consistently strive to meet the needs of our users. Our live streaming technology, with millions of views and real-time subtitle translations, showcases our platform's innovation and ability to be inclusive.
These superior technological features are available to all users, no matter who they are or what their politics are. We're building it, and we expect advertisers soon will have no choice but to set aside their old biased thinking and adopt a new inclusive one. The people they rely on to make their fortunes are speaking - and speaking freely.
